Moreton Island
Moreton Island

Moreton Island is a sand island hosting the unusual Mount Tempest which is reputed to be the highest permanent sand dune in the world. There are no established roads on the island although 4WD vehicles can drive along the tracks which run beside the beach. The special point is that, although it is only a few hours by ferry from the centre of Brisbane, it is still relatively untouched. You may camp on the island even beside the official camp grounds unless signed otherwise. Ever heard of tobogganing? Try it out. Kind of surfing down the sand dunes on a sheet of masonite. Moreton Island, a place to relax and enjoy.

Bruce has a good site about Moreton Island and other NPs in Queensland
